The Sky Beneath Me

The Jagged Gate

Three Paths

  1. I keep waiting for some kind of liner notes on these. I suspect you took them or there would be photo credits, right? (And I like them; good work!). Are they from around central North Carolina? Are they all upside down? They make me miss fall.

I'm going outside to buy a coconut on the street corner right now. Just cause I can.

  2. How far would you have to walk to buy a monkey?

Any way, yes, I took these with my cell phone during a walk at the Eno River. The top one is upside down as you spotted. The "sky" in the photo is actually the reflection on the water in a quarry near the river. The little "ufo" things in the air are leaves floating on the surface. The water was extremely still when I took this, so that the lake was almost a perfect mirror, with the colors in the reflection a bit darker than those in the air.

The other photos aren't flipped. They are of the remains of a foundation to an old mill. I saw the jagged hole in the wall and instantly reverted to my D&D geek mode, imagining all the potential creatures that might poke their heads out. It made me want to start up a game just so I can send a band of adventures through such a jagged gate.

In the last photo, you can see, barely, that there are actuall three holes in the wall... two of which are built into the foundation, little archways, one intact, one crumbling. Add in the jagged hole, and you've got three possible paths for a band of adventurers.

Cooked or raw? I mean, I can pick a raw one for free.

Your camera takes pretty good quality pictures.

  4. In my last comment, the word "camera" is supposed to be the word "phone". I made a mistake with my keyboard and posted the wrong word.

  5. My phone is a 1.3 megapixel, so I'm throwing away over half the pixels before I post them on the blog. It's better than my 3 megapixel digital camera, I think, or at least good enough that I don't mess with the camera any more. I'm shopping for a 10 megapixel camera now. I'd like my cell phone camera better if it had a flash. Cell phone makers keep adding cameras to phones. What I'd like to see is a camera maker built a really good camera then add a phone to it, and still have the whole package fit in my pocket.
